The Reef Gecko, Sphaerodactylus notatus, found in the Keys and the extreme southern part of the state, and may be the only native gecko. It is brown. Males have dark spots.

Geckos are small to average sized lizards belonging to the family Gekkonidae which are found in warm climates throughout the world.

Geckos are known for their ability to run on smooth vertical surfaces. Their toes are splayed at the end and the pads thus formed are covered with numerous microscopic bristles.

The gecko sticks its eggs to walls or rocks near cracks or holes. More than one female may use the same 'nest'. The eggs are soft-shelled at first with a very sticky surface. They harden soon after they are laid.

Many geckos lack eyelids, but the leopard gecko's are not only has translucent, but they are movable, which allows them to blink and close their eyes while sleeping.

This gecko has an approximate total length of 16cm. Individuals are rich brown above and whitish below with the sides and limbs speckled darker or paler brown.

Most Geckos are small, usually nocturnal lizards of the family Gekkonidae, which contains about 80 genera and about 700 species.

Tokay geckos are one of the largest gecko species—they are about 14 inches long. Their skin is generally gray with several reddish spots or flecks. It is possible to see straight through the head of the geckos from one ear hole to the other.

These geckos have adapted their webbed feet not only to help them stay atop, but to bury beneath the dunes of the Namib Desert. Strictly nocturnal lizards, they spend the day in self-dug burrows and emerge at night to feed.

Tokay geckos are attractive physically and draw hobbyists to them based on sight alone. That's unfortunate because the Tokay gecko's attitude doesn't match its good looks.

The Western Banded Gecko is a medium-sized gecko with soft skin, short limbs, a pointed snout, large eyes, and functional eyelids. Like other Eublepharid geckos, this species has movable eyelids, slender toes that lack villi, and pointed claws.

Gecko's eyes only see in black and white. Because they are nocturnal, they have no need to distinguish colours. Tokay geckos are aggressive, solitary animals.

Do not use "white" lights for heat, as they should not be left on at night. The reptile will need heat at night as well. Hot "rocks" are not helpful for hiding species like leopard geckoes - they are not comfortable lying in an exposed position.

Regurgiation samples from Swainson's warblers in Jamaica were comprised primarily of beetles (Coleoptera), spiders, and ants. In addition to the typical prey items, seeds and a species of gecko (Sphaerodactylus goniorhynchus) were also eaten.
