Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus The Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) is a world-wide species which is locally distributed in many areas. It occurs in the extreme eastern United States with a few wandering west to Texas in some seasons.
Glossy Ibis weigh about 1.2 pounds and measure 23 inches, with a 36-inch wingspan. Once called the “Black Curlew,' the Glossy Ibis is a medium-sized, dark wading bird with a long, decurved bill.
The glossy ibis is about 20 inches tall with a wingspan of about three feet. It has a long, dark gray bill that is curved down. It has dark purple to black feathers on its head, neck, back and belly.
