Glossy Starling
Bird. Burchell's glossy starlings draw a lot of attention to themselves with their looks and their voices. Standing with their heads flung back and their wings slightly dropped, they belt out a throaty, musical call.

 


The Cape Glossy Starling (Lamprotornis nitens) is widespread over much of southern Africa. The one shown here was near Satara Camp, in Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa in January, 2006.

species, particularly the larger ones, are called mynas, and the members of the African genus Lamprotornis are known as glossy starlings because of their iridescent plumage. The two species of Buphagus are called oxpeckers.

Many Asian species, particularly the larger ones, are called mynas, and many African species are known as glossy starlings because of their iridescent plumage.
