The Golden-winged Warbler uses primarily habitats that are in early successional areas such as shrubby vegetation found along streams, wet fields with shrubby vegetation, power line right-of-ways, and some cut-over areas.

The Golden-winged Warbler singing its Blue-winged song was again seen early in the month at the intersection of Turkey Hill and Road. I was lucky to see it on May. I went back the next day and several days after with no success.

Of this group, the Blue-winged and Golden-winged Warblers deserve special note. These species cross-breed so regularly that their hybrids were originally named as separate species.

The Blue-winged Warbler occassionally hybridizes with the Golden-winged Warbler to produce offspring with characteristics of both parents.

Of interest is a detailed report by Joan R. Kelly of a male "Lawrence's Warbler," the rarer form of hybrid between Blue-winged and Golden-winged Warblers, at Big Bras d'Or, Victoria County, on 7 July 1980.

Its range is extending northwards, where it is replacing the very closely related Golden-winged Warbler, Vermivora chrysoptera.
