In Africa they include the caracal, African golden cat, black-footed cat, sand cat, African wild cat and serval. It is believed that the domestic cats are descendents of the African wild cat that was domesticated by the Egyptians around 2000 B.C.

The young are also caught by servals, golden cats, eagles and pythons as well as chimpanzees and baboons.

The serval is thought to be most closely related to the caracal and the African Golden Cat that are found in similar territories in Africa to the serval.

Family group: Bonded pairs.
Diet: Fruit, herbs, shrubs and new growth, probably some animal matter.
