The Gray Hawks visited Shollenberger Park Monday, Oct.15. The group, led by Rigdon Currie, was treated to sightings of 2 specialty birds of this area, the Pacific Golden Plover and the Blue-winged Teal (Anas discors).

American members of the genus Buteo includes the Red-tail, Red-shouldered, Swainson's, and Gray hawks, among others. The Red-tail is the most common. The so-called Harlan's Hawk was formerly considered to be a separate species.
