The Great crested grebe can be found all over Europe except for northern parts of Scandinavia, then in Asia and in northern, eastern and southern parts of Africa. They generally spend winter time in southern parts of their distribution.

At Lake Pearson I had better luck turning up a pair of South Island Great Crested Grebes. There are only 250 of these birds left so I feel very lucky to have seen two.
