Greater kudus are one of the most striking and beautiful of the antelopes. The male's magnificent spiral horns can reach up to 168 cm (66 in.) in length and are highly prized trophies. Females do not have horns.

The Greater Kudu is extremely wary and depends on woodlands and thickets for concealment as it browses. Greatly enlarged ears suggest an acute sense of hearing. The Greater Kudu seldom vocalizes except for an alarm bark and a few mother/infant calls.
