Green Lacewings

Animals Green KingfisherGreen lizard

Green lacewings are insects in the very large family Chrysopidae of the order Neuroptera. There are three subfamilies (Apochrysinae, Nothochrysinae and Chrysopinae), 87 genera and about 1,300 species.

The larvae of some of the Green Lacewings are very special, for the camouflage themselves. They have long and stiff hairs all over their body and on these they put the skins of their sucked dry victims.

Other potential predators of Karner blue butterfly larvae include green lacewings (Chrysopidae), solider beetles (Cantharidae), and damsel bugs [37].

The common name lacewings is often used for the most widely known net-winged insects - the green lacewings (Chrysopidae) - but actually most members of the Neuroptera are referred to as some sort of "lacewing".
