You may hear the rhythmic cooing of this mid-sized fruit dove before you can locate them in the canopy of the rainforest.

The Yellow-headed Parrot is a stocky green parrot with a yellow head. The body is bright green, with dark scallops on the neck. Wing feathers have black or violet blue tips, and there is a red patch on the bend of the wing.

Maximum sizes vary widely within the family, from 20 cm in the smallest species, such as the green parrotfish (Leptoscarus viagiensis) to 1.5 m in the largest species, Bolbometopon muricatum.
