Green Sea Turtle - Chelonia mydas.
The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) is among the largest marine turtles and is also the most widespread. It grows to lengths of about 3 to 4 feet and weights of up to 200 kg.

Hatchling green sea turtles have been raised in captivity at various locations around the world. Usually the purpose of these turtle farms has been to produce turtle meat and soup for human consumption.

Green sea turtles are found in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans (Worldwide in seas where temperature does not fall below 20°C). They are sensitive to heat and cold and prefer the warmer parts of the oceans.

Green Sea Turtle: Chelonia mydas
Appearance:
Its name describes the color of its body fat, not its carapace (top shell), which is smooth and colored light to dark brown with dark mottling.

Green Sea Turtles range throughout the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans primarily in the tropical regions. During the day, Green Sea Turtles feed in the seagrass beds that grow in shallow waters.

The Green Sea Turtle is found in three oceans: Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Ocean in tropical and subtropical waters. They are regularly seen from Virginia to Texas and in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Description: 28-60" (71-153 cm). Paddle-like flippers, large size and an oceanic lifestyle are characteristic of this species. Oval shaped carapace is unkeeled and brown to slight olive with radiating design.

Green sea turtles live in tropical waters all over the world. The only time they emerge from the water is when they are nesting. The only time males are not at sea is when they were first born. C. m.
