The breeding habitat of the Black-throated Green Warbler is coniferous and mixed forests in eastern North America and western Canada and cypress swamps on the southern Atlantic coast.

The Black-throated Green Warbler breeds in Canada and north-eastern USA and winters from Texas south through Central America to northern South America as well as in the West Indies.

The Black-throated Green Warbler is a relatively uncommon migrant through the eastern part of the state. Easily identifiable, with the black throat and upper chest of the male offset by the bright yellow head.

In fall, Black-throated Green Warbler is similar but has a greenish cheek and crown that don't contrast much with the yellow supercilium.

first for Canada, although they have since been recorded in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. With its extensive yellow face (including forehead) and gray back, the species, if well seen, cannot be confused with the Black-throated Green Warbler.
