Ground doves (7 inches), slightly larger than sparrows, inhabit brush and farmlands in the southern United States and into Mexico. The tail is short and broad. Their coloration is brown with rufous in the wings. The feet are yellow.

The Ground Dove is met with from the lower parts of Louisiana to Cape Hatteras, following the coast quite round the Floridas, but very seldom seen at any great distance in the interior.

Blue Ground Doves are small pigeons, 20 cm long with a weight of 65-72 g . Adult males have blue-grey upperparts and paler grey underparts, becoming grey-white on the face.

The Mourning Dove might be confused with the Common Ground Dove, a smaller, stockier bird about 17 cm long (6.5 in) which is primarily a southern coastal species.

We looked without success for Ruddy Ground Dove possible here. We did have Lesser Goldfinch, Summer and Western Tanagers, Kestrel.
Here is the group strolling under the trees in the yard of the old ranch house.
