Ground Snake (Sonora semiannulata)
Description: Adults 10" to 15" in length. Color light brown, gray, or reddish, usually with dark to black crossbands. Moderately slender body, with smooth scales. Divided anal plate.

 


The Ground Snake is from the order Squamata. Species from this order are amphisbaenians, lizards or snakes. There are over 6,000 living species belonging to the squamata order - it is the largest order of all reptiles.

This species is also known as the Variable Ground Snake.
Habitats
This is a species primarily of the arid Southwest.

(2) Ground snakes rarely ascending bushes or entering water. Their body is cylindrical, flexible in every part, covered with smooth or keeled scales, and provided with broad ventral and subcaudal scutes.
