The guinea fowl roam the Zoo grounds looking for tasty insects. One of their favorites is Japanese beetles and a second
is ticks! Their two "hang-outs" are near the Rainforest and in the New England Farmyard.

Guinea fowl are adorned with a multitude of opalescent spots, and other animals with white spots are named for them. The black body of the guineafowl pufferfish, Arothron meleagris, is covered in pearly white spots, for instance.

I took them while at some distance for a great flock of Guinea Fowls. Their movements were brisk, they often struck at each other in the manner of the domestic fowl, and ran with surprising celerity.

Some birds have a supply of powder down feathers which grow continuously, with small particles regularly breaking off from the ends of the barbules.
In the wild, caracals will eat guinea fowl, desert partridges, hedgehogs, rodents, mongoose, duikers, dik-diks, mountain reedbuck, fawns of impala, bush-buck and kudu.
The Serval preys on birds such as Guinea Fowl, rodents, small mammals, fish, reptiles such as snakes and lizards, and invertebrates.

These bizarre birds are not ground vultures but rather vulturine guinea fowl. They're not even very closely related to vultures. They sure have the vulture-shaped heads though.
Guinea fowl and hares are also hunted. While the other big cats mainly hunt by night, the cheetah is a diurnal hunter.
Peafowl belong to the family Galliformes, which include pheasants, quail, grouse, turkeys and Guinea fowl. Peafowls are among the largest Galliformes.
As early as the 14th century, peafowl (Pavo sp.) were called "turkey-cocks". Later, during the 17th century, guinea fowl were also called "turkey", as was the grouse-like capercallie (Tetrao urogallus) of Scotland.
The species name gallopavo (gal-low-PAY-voe) is from the Latin words for a cock - gallus - and a peafowl - pavo - meaning a chickenlike peafowl or Guinea fowl (a slightly erroneous name).
