About Hartebeest
The hartebeest is a medium sized antelope that lives in open grasslands. This animal has short fur , both the males and females have small, sharply bent horns, which grow from a bulge on the top of their heads.
The Red Hartebeest is the fastest antelope in Africa, up to 75 km/hr, and can outruns most predator attacks. Its hides were the most favoured item of trade with the rural Khoi people during early colonial times in the Cape. Read more ...
The diet consists primarily of gazelles, but also includes impalas, game birds, rabbits, and the young of warthogs, kudu, hartebeest, oryx, roan, and sable. Cheetah hunt in early morning and late afternoon (diurnal).

In Namibia, cheetahs have been seen preying on dik-dik, steenbok, scrub hares, duiker, kudu, oryx and hartebeest. There is a healthy prey population on Namibian farmlands to sustain cheetahs and other large carnivores.
Some antelopes include the gazelle, eland, impala, springbok, klipspringer, oryx, saiga, waterbuck, suni, hartebeests, topi, nyala, bongo, dik-dik, kob, duiker, gemsbok, etc. They are hunted by lions, leopards, wild dogs, and other predators.
To do this, cheetahs often sit on a termite mound or tree limb to scan the countryside. Though they like gazelles best, cheetahs also keep an eye out for impalas, springhares, birds, and the young of warthogs, kudu, hartebeest, and other mammals.
