Betta - (bt´) or fighting fish, small, freshwater fish of the genus Betta, found in Thailand and the Malay Peninsula.

: Anabantidae or labyrinth fish are air breathers. One characteristic common to all labyrinth fish is the presence of a specialized respiratory structure called the "labyrinth" organ.

Siamese Fighting fish are part of a fish family that all have a special breathing organ, called labyrinth, which they can use to absorb air. Labyrinth fishes that are prevented from taking air will drown.
