The porbeagle shark, Lamna nasus, feeds on small pelagic schooling fishes such as: lancetfish, herring, sauries, mackerels, and groundfish such as: sand lances, lumpsuckers, flounders, hakes, and cod. They also prey on other sharks and squid.
The bony fish it feeds on include lancetfish, oarfish, barracuda, jacks, dolphinfish, marlin, tuna, and mackerel. Its method of obtaining food often includes biting into a group of fish, or swimming through schools of tuna with an open mouth.
Diet The porbeagle feeds mainly upon pelagic fishes such as herring, lancetfish and mackerel. However they also eat cod, redfish, haddock, squid and shellfish.
