Empidonax minimus
The Least Flycatcher (Empidonax minimus) breeds across much of the northern United States and most of Canada.

Least flycatchers are abundant in the Weaselhead/Glenmore Park area from May through September every year. Watch for them througout the park.

Least Flycatcher Empidonax minimus. Uncommon in fall and occasional to rare in spring in all regions. Found in open woodlands, orchards, and parks.

Adults share similar light eye ring and two whitish wing bars with four other eastern Empidonax flycatchers: Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher, Willow Flycatcher, and Alder Flycatcher.

Outside the breeding season, the Alder Flycatcher can be differentiated from Least Flycatchers by the brownish rather than grayish cast to its back, especially the nape.
