Lined Snakes' favorite food is earthworms, but slugs, snails, soft-bodied insects are also consumed.

 


The Lined Snake is from the order Squamata. Species from this order are amphisbaenians, lizards or snakes. There are over 6,000 living species belonging to the squamata order - it is the largest order of all reptiles.

TEXAS LINED SNAKE FACTS
Description
The Texas Lined Snake is olive brown, gray brown or dark brown with a yellow or cream colored stripe down the center of the back. The underside has a double row of crescent shaped markings down the belly.

OTHER NAMES: Hoop Snake, Eel Moccasin, Horn Snake, Red-lined Snake, Red-lined Horn Snake, Red Swamp Snake, Sand Hog, Sand Snake, Striped Wampum (Wright and Wright 1994) Stinging Snake, and Thunderbolt (Mount 1975).

Breeding : A female deposits 4-10 eggs in a relatively dry underground burrow. Females may lay 1-3 clutches per season. Eggs are often eaten by mamals such as racoon dogs, weasels and four-lined snakes. They hatch in 2-3 months.
