The Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is a widespread species of southern Europe, east Africa, much of Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

Little egrets inhabit the margins of coastal and inland water habitats, preferring open areas with shallow fresh water. They are usually solitary except when roosting in trees or flying to roost.

The little egret is a small white heron with attractive white plumes on crest, back and chest, black legs and bill and yellow feet. It first appeared in the UK in significant numbers in 1989 and first bred in Dorset in 1996.

Observers should be alert to possible occurrences of the very similar Little Egret, Egretta garzetta, a wanderer from the Old World that has appeared twice in Newfoundland and once in Quebec.

. I managed to see Great, Intermediate, and Little Egret, Masked Lapwing, Whimbrel, Eastern Curlew, Mangrove Striated Heron, Darter, White Ibis, White-faced Heron, Black Cormorant, Jaiburu, and Brahminy Kite.

OTHER NAMES: Lesser egret, little egret, little snowy, little white egret, little white heron.

It seems to slim to be a cattle heron, but the legs are black, the bill very yellow, eyes yellow so it doesn't seem to be a great egret, a little egret, a snowy egret or any heron. Anyone know? Please feel free to email me at scotd@chds.org ...

They also compete successfully for nest sites with Cattle and Little Egrets. The adaptable Ibises supplement their diet by feeding at rubbish tips, which helps them to survive the winter in these temperate regions.
