Luna moths can be seen at night, flying around lights, in the eastern half of the United States.
Adult luna moths do not eat. They consume all the energy and food they need while caterpillars.

This moth, named after Luna, the Roman goddess of the moon, is one of the most spectacular-looking moths, with sweeping tails and feathery antennae. Unfortunately, it is threatened by the use of pesticides.

Common species in northwestern Ontario are the monarch (Danaus plexippus), mourning cloak (Nymphalis antiopa), and luna moth (Actias luna).

A couple of years ago, I noticed a huge, beautiful Luna Moth by the side of a building. Unfortunately a mockingbird had noticed it, too. The bird was darting around making passes at the moth.
