The Mandarin Duck (family Anatidae) one day suddenly came to our pond and left some two weeks later. The duck doesn't originally belong in Europe but humans took it from China, for the male has a very beautifully coloured pattern on its feathers.

The overall body plan of ducks is elongated and broad, and the ducks are also relatively long-necked, albeit not as long-necked as the geese and swans. The body shape of diving ducks varies somewhat from this in being more rounded.
: The male mandarin duck is a very striking bird. In full plumage, the male has a pair of orange "sail" feathers that are raised vertically above the back; it has a red bill, large white crescents above the eyes, and a reddish face with "whiskers".
