The Manta Ray is the largest of the ray type of fish and a close relative of the shark. Unlike other fish, rays do not have bones--their skeleton is made of cartilage.

The manta ray, or giant manta (Manta birostris), is the largest of the rays, ranging up to 6.7 meters (22 ft) across its pectoral fins (or "wings") and weighing up to 1,350 kg (3,000 lb).

Manta ray
Manta rays are one of the most easily identified fish off tropical shores, owing to their large, triangular pectoral 'wings' that can span up to nearly 7m.

Giant Manta Ray Manta birostris
Divers often describe the experience of swimming beneath a manta ray as like being overtaken by a huge flying saucer.

Pacific Manta Ray
The manta ray, which makes up this family, is one of the largest fishes. They feed primary on plankton though they do eat fish.

The Devil Ray also known as the Manta Ray is flat and wide ray with enlarged pectoral fins. In front of the head it has got two cephalic lobes. In the mouth there are plenty of teeth located only in the lower jaw.
