MARMOSET, a name derived from Fr. marmouset (meaning "of a gross figure"), and used to designate the small tropical American monkeys classed by naturalists in the family Hapalidae (or Chrysothricidae).
Family Marmoset: Marmosets live in small family groups consisting of a mated pair and their offspring, thus making marmosets (along with gibbons) some of the few monogamous primates. They are thought to be territorial.

Common Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) is a New World monkey. It originally lived on the Northeastern coast of Brazil, in the states of Piaui, Paraiba, Ceará, Pernambuco, Alagoas and Bahia.
Marmosets live up to 10 years in the wild and 16 years in captivity.
Diet:
The diet of the white-eared marmoset includes insects, fruit and tree sap.
Marmosets live in mixed sex groups of up to 13 individuals. Only the head male and female will produce offspring. The mechanism that supposedly suppresses reproduction in lower-ranking females is still being studied.

Marmosets are social animals that live in small groups called troops. Each troop usually includes just one breeding female, so most of the child-rearing is done by the father and older siblings.
