In most cases, the meadow mouse or vole, predominates in their diet. With their keen night vision and acute hearing abilities, barn owls can locate mice in the grass during the darkest of nights.

Sexual Dimorphism:
Males are larger than females.

In North America the name field mouse (or meadow mouse) is applied to voles. South American field mice belong to the genus Akodon, with about sixty species distributed among a wide variety of habitats, including human dwellings.
