The Eastern Meadowlark (Sturnella magna) is widespread in grassland areas across the eastern two-thirds of the United States. Some races of this species nest as far west as Arizona.

The meadowlark's diet is mostly insects like caterpillars and grasshoppers, although it will sometimes eat seeds.

Roger Tory Peterson described the Dickcissel as like a little meadowlark. That's a good description with its black "stickpin" spot on the chest, and strong eyeline and yellow lores. Still the differences are great.

While they primarily eat insects on the ground, all but the Meadowlark visit feeders. Red-winged blackbirds, cowbirds, and grackles often forage in mixed flocks during fall and winter. None will use nest boxes.

The Bare-shanked Screech Owl is a large screech-owl that is about the length (10 inches) of a Meadowlark. With a weight of 180 grams this can be one of the most massive of the screech-owls.

At least some potentially important avian prey species, such as meadowlarks, some plovers, Mourning Dove, Horned Lark, and others, seem to respond positively to grazing.

Diet
Groundhogs, marmots, foxes, skunks, cats, rabbits, grouse, ground squirrels, crows, pheasants, meadowlarks, tortoises, and snakes.

Prey includes Richardson's ground squirrels, white-tailed jackrabbits, black-tailed jackrabbits, ground squirrels, pocket gophers, prairie dogs, and kangaroo rats. Other prey includes snakes, lizards, meadowlarks, grasshoppers, and crickets.
