Megamouth Shark
The Megamouth shark is a large, slow-swimming, timid shark that was only discovered in 1976. Only 14 examples of this rare species have ever been found, mostly in the Pacific Ocean.

 


The Megamouth Shark (Megachasma pelagios) is an extremely rare and unusual species of shark, discovered in 1976, with 36 specimens known to be caught or sighted as of 2006.

The megamouth shark is the rarest and most mysterious pelagic shark species. It was only discovered in 1976, and has only been seen 41 times since.

Some types of shark are very rare (like the Great White Shark and the Megamouth Shark) and some are quite common (like the Dogfish Shark and Bull Shark).
