Midland Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi wrightworm) DESCRIPTION: 10 to 12 inches in length. It has two rows of dark spots along the back that fade toward the tail. Dark bars may connect the spots, giving the impression of a ladder-like pattern.
Lifestyle Many of the Midland Brown Snakes often hibernate together during the winter. During mild weather they are diurnal, while in warm weather they are nocturnal. These are secretive snakes that hide under flat rocks, logs and trash.

Ohio is inhabited by a mixed population of northern and midland brown snakes. They are almost identical in coloration, Both have two rows of dark spots running down the back. On the midland brown snake, these spots are connected by dark crossbands.
