The Monk Parakeet is distributed in central and northern Argentina, Paraguay, southern Bolivia, Uruguay and south Brazil. It is found in a variety of dry open and woodland habitats.

A single bird was seen flying from south to north over Lake Law toward the village, on August 19, 1988.

The Quaker Parakeet or Monk Parakeet is very charming! This inquisitive bird is a great talker, enjoys human interaction, head scratching and cuddling. They are hardy, adaptable, and easy to breed.

The Monk Parakeet Lives On: The Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus), also known as the Quaker Parrot, is a species of parrot that originated in the temperate areas of Argentina and Brazil in South America.

Only the Monk Parakeet and five species of Agapornis lovebird build nests in trees,[28] and three Australian and New Zealand ground parrots nest on the ground.

They can be housed together with other species like the Monk Parakeet, the Slender-billed Conure or the Austral Conure, as well with their own kind. Special attention must be paid during matting season, since biting might occur in special cases.

Most are found in scattered urban areas within the ranges noted. Monk Parakeets are also found in agricultural areas. The Budgerigar is common along the central Gulf Coast.
