Mudfish Squirming
We found one nearly dried-up pool in a trickling stream that was just writhing with mudfish. Each of these squirmy eel-like fish was a couple of feet long or so.
Discussion The Bowfin, also called mudfish, dogfish, and grinnel, is often thought of as a pest since it consumes the same food items as game fishes.
Mudfish strike topwater and deep-running lures but are most often caught on live bait. It is a better fighter, than some highly rated game fish. The flesh is jelly-like, but can be prepared smoked, fried as patties or stewed.
There are 10 species of Galaxias, 5 of which make up the whitebait catch; although within the Galaxiidae family there are also some species of mudfish.
