Reeves' Muntjac
Muntiacus reevesi
Also Called: Barking Deer or Chinese Muntjac ...

Muntjac deer don't have a fixed breeding season, unlike many other deer. Instead, they reproduce continually throughout the year.

Muntjac are deer of the genus Muntiacus, also known as Barking Deer. Muntjac are the oldest known deer, appearing 15-35 million years ago, with remains found in Miocene deposits in France and Germany.

Muntjacs are considered a relatively primitive group of deer, because of their small size and because the males have enlarged upper canines. A new species of muntjac called the Giant Muntjac was just found in 1992 in Vietnam.

Muntjacs eat grasses, low-growing leaves, and tender shoots.
Behavior:
Young muntjacs are usually born in dense growth, where they remain hidden until they can move about with the mother. Fea's muntjac is diurnal.

Muntjacs are also referred to as "barking deer" due to the deep bark like sounds they are known to make when on alert. This means of communication is important for this forest dwelling species, which is often found in areas of poor visibility.
4.

Muntjacs are always on alert. In fact, they are seen as messengers of danger because they make a loud barking noise when alarmed.
