Pike - common name for the family Esocidae, freshwater game and food fishes of Europe, Asia, and North America.
Unlike the muskellunge, hooked pike fight in the depths rather than leaping from the water. As a sport fish, it is usually taken by trolling with large spoons, plugs or large bait fish.

" Like its close relatives, northern pike and muskellunge, the chain pickerel is equipped with a large mouth, well adapted for piscivory.
Perch are an important food source for top predators such as the walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, and in colder waters lake trout. Herring gulls and diving ducks also eat them (Herman et al 1959).
Threats to Survival
: Predators of largemouth bass include herons, loons, mergansers, larger fish such as pike, walleye and muskellunge, and human anglers. Erosion may destroy habitat as they do not thrive in muddy water.
There are five recognised species of this large predatory fish which are the American pickerels, the Northern Pike, the Muskellunge, the Chain Pickerel and the Amur pike.
