Double-crested Cormorant very similar, but is larger, has a proportionally shorter tail, a rounded base of gular area and gape, and a bright yellow-orange gular area.

The Neotropic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus) is a species of South and Central America which barely enters the United States, mainly in south Texas.

The Neotropic Cormorant is very similar to the Double-Crested Cormorant, and is sometimes found with them.

Double-crested Cormorant Phalacrocorax auritus. Occasional breeder. Common in all regions in fall, winter, and spring. Fairly common to uncommon in summer.

Some of the more notable species seen on this lake are Neotropic Cormorant (1989), Common Loon, Franklin's Gull (1996), Thayer's Gull (2005), Lesser Black-backed Gull (2001, 2005), Glaucous Gull, and Common Tern (2000).
