Northern pike
The northern pike is popular because of its size and willingness to strike a bait or lure. Angler-caught fish average 2-3 pounds, though northern pike occasionally exceed 20 pounds.

 


Northern pike are primarily freshwater fish. The species occurs in most of Canada, with the exception of the Maritime Provinces. It is also found across Europe and Asia.
Adult northern pike range in length from 46 to 100 cm (18 to 39 in.).

Description
Non-native, originally found in Canada and northern states around the Great Lakes. Introduced to Arizona in 1965. Back and sides are dusky olive-green with rows of light oval spots.

Northern Pike

Northern Pike (Average Size 18 inches) Located in clear lakes, quiet pools and backwaters of creeks and small to large rivers. Pike like to live in shallow, weedy, large, small and deep lakes and rivers.

Great Northern Pike
A highly regarded freshwater game fish, hard-fighting great northern pike, sometimes called jackfish, are found in most lakes and rivers in mainland Northwest Territories.

Northern pike average 46-51 cm (18-20 inches) in length. They can be identified by their single dorsal fin and light-colored spots along their dark body.

" Like its close relatives, northern pike and muskellunge, the chain pickerel is equipped with a large mouth, well adapted for piscivory.

The American, northern, or great northern pike, Esox lucius, called jackfish in Canada, is also voracious, lurking in weedy shallows to ambush its prey.

There are five recognised species of this large predatory fish which are the American pickerels, the Northern Pike, the Muskellunge, the Chain Pickerel and the Amur pike.

Smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieuis) and northern pike (Esok lucius) also benefit from American beaver impoundments [30].
