Peacock or peafowl Large bird belonging to the pheasant family, in East Asia being its native region. Javanese peafowls, both lived in the deep forests. A third called Congo peafowl, was recently discovered in Africa.

Peacocks are native to India, but can live in many parts of the world in captivity. There are many different kinds of peacocks including the Indian Blue, Black Shouldered, Congo, Green, and White peacocks.

The peacock has an attractive green, blue and purple head decoratedwith a small crown of bare-shafted feathers; the back is green and blue, the underparts black, the wings black and white, the tail and flight feathers brown.

Anatomy: The male peafowl (called the peacock) is about 84 inches (2.1 m) long. The female (called the peahen) is about 34 inches (0.85 m) long. Both have a fan-shaped crest on the head.
