The Peewee lives in woodlands of the eastern US and Canada during the warmer months.
The Blackish Peewee is rare and localised. It is known from smallish, disjunct areas in eastern Ecuador and Peru, the Guianas and Amazonian Brazil. It may well be under-reported since it tends to perch high in the forest canopy and borders.
In the East, the most similar species is the Eastern Wood Peewee. The Eastern Wood Peewee has wing bars and a two-colored bill, with a light lower mandible and darker upper mandible.
