Pine martens are elusive members of the weasel family, and sport a creamy yellow throat bib. Found throughout most of central and northern Europe, this once heavily persecuted marten is now extinct from most of England and Wales.

Habitat and range
The boreal owl prefers northern forests containing spruce, pine, and aspen. Boreal owls are rarely seen in Minnesota. The first one reported nesting here was in 1978.

Is sometimes called the pine marten, and is found in quantity in the wooded and mountainous districts of Russia, Norway, Germany and Switzerland. It possesses a thick underwool with strong top hair, and ranges from a pale to a dark bluish brown.
The European red squirrel's predators are birds of prey, Eurasian wild cats and pine martens. To keep safe, the squirrel climbs to the end of a branch. Since the branch can't hold much weight, the predator leaves.
Biologists have followed their progress over the years tracking pine martens to learn about their habitat use and home range needs.

The sparrowhawk has no serious predators itself, although its chicks and fledglings are taken by pine martens and goshawks. This threat is, however, not significant as both of these are scarce in the UK.

It lives in coniferous forests where it eats small animals, carrion the, nuts, honey, and berries. Similar to the American marten are the European pine marten and the stone or beach marten of Europe and Central Asia.
The insects attract a wide variety of species of birds to the taiga like the spruce grouse and mammals like pine marten, moose, wolf, fisher, Canada lynx, and grizzly bear can be found in the taiga.
