Piranhas generally pose little threat to humans, and attacks on humans are extremely rare. Natives frequently swim in piranha infested water without attacks or scratches.

Piranhas are found in South America.
Diet

Piranhas generally eat smaller fish. Larger fish and small
mammals may be attacked if there is a school of
piranhas.

Piranhas' natural predators include crocodiles, Amazon river dolphins (botos), and herons. With the decline of these predators, piranha populations are increasing in certain rivers. Humans also hunt piranhas for their meat and for the pet trade.
