Some pythons display vivid patterns on their scales while others are a nondescript brown. They usually reflect appropriate camouflage for their native habitat.

Ball pythons (Python regius) are found at the edges of the forest lands of Central and Western Africa. They are equally comfortable on the ground and in trees. They are crepuscular, active around dawn and dusk.
Python molurus ranges across the lower half of the Asian continent. The species' western limit is thought to be the Indus Valley. It may range as far north as Quingchuan County of Sichuan Province, China, and as far south as Borneo.

Pythons are primitive snakes that have vestigial or leftover pelvic girdles and hind limbs that show up externally as a pair of "spurs" near the base of the tail. Male pythons use these spurs during courtship and mating.

The Burmese python is one of the largest snake species, reaching lengths of up to 20 feet. In general, females are larger than males.
This python is the favorite food of some tribes and they are also slaughtered for their skins. It is one of the most widely sold snakes in the pet trade.
These pythons actively hunt small mammals such as rats and gerbils, following them into their burrows. They kill their prey by wrapping around them and constricting or by pressing them against the burrow walls.

Children's Pythons are small, but that has nothing to do with the origin of their name. They were named in honor of a fellow named John George Children.

Predators: Vervets' natural predators include eagles and snakes, particularly the python, which often waits at the bottom of a tree to ambush an unsuspecting monkey as it climbs down. Pythons are able to swallow vervets whole.
Boa constrictors and pythons are among the most primitive of living snakes, as evidenced by the presence of its vestigial hind limbs.
When threatened, boa constrictors will hiss so loudly that they can be heard 100 feet away.
Leopards, tigers and pythons are their chief native predators, although humans also hunt them for their meat and skin. With a population estimated at over 650,000, Reeves' Muntjacs are neither endangered nor protected.

Also known to attack sloth bear, dogs, leopards, crocodiles and pythons as well as monkeys and hares. Old and injured tigers have been known to attack humans and domestic cattle.
There are a host of predators that young gazelles have to avoid, including cheetahs, lions, wild dogs, leopards, hyenas, and even pythons. So newborn babies lie motionless in the bush, emerging from hiding only long enough to nurse.
OFFSPRING:
Most snake species lay eggs, but some species give birth to live young. Snakes lay their eggs in a warm location. With the exception of some python species, eggs and young are not cared for by the male or female.
Species Small to Large: There are over 2,700 species of snake, ranging from 4 inches in length (the thread snake) to over 32 feet (the reticulated python).
They tend to sleep in the branches of trees that overhang water, in order to avoid predators (clouded leopards and pythons). They have a fixed daily pattern of behaviour.
