The ratel is generally a solitary animal but it has also been observed in small groups. These groups usually consist of about three members, most likely families . Ratels are nomadic and have a large home range.

Honey Hunters: Ratels have such a great appetite for ravaging beehives that there have been cases of dead ratels being found, stung to death within the hives they were trying to eat.

There are eight species of badger, in three subfamilies: Melinae (badgers of Europe and Asia), Mellivorinae (the Ratel or honey badger), and Taxideinae (the American badger).

In addition, juveniles are depredated by smaller predators like jackals, the Libyan wildcat, ratel, baboons, eagles, and monitor lizards (Walther, 1990).

The real predators that keep their population in check are mostly wild cats, several cats, genets, mongooses, jackals, ratels and large owls. Regardless, they are very numerous and not in any danger as a species.

There are eight different species of badger, and these badger species are split into three badger subfamilies, the badgers of Europe and Asia, the Ratel badger or honey badger, and the American badger.

White-throated Monitors have been noted to fight to the death. The main competitor of the White-throated Monitor is the black-backed jackal, as both have similar diets. Predators of this monitor are ratels, birds of prey, and most large carnivores.
