Red Milk Snake Lampropeltis triangulum syspila. Uncommon and infrequently encountered in northwestern portion of Appalachian Plateau. Inhabits woodland, often near rocky areas.
Speculation of the possible occurrence of the red milk snake L. t. syspila in Minnesota has yet to be thoroughly investigated.
Two subspecies, the Louisiana Milk Snake (L. t. amaura) and Red Milk Snake (L. t. syspila), occur in the state. There seems to be no clear way to distinguish between these subspecies.
