Redfish
Redfish is a common name for several species of fish. It is most commonly applied to members of the deep-sea genus Sebastes, or the reef dwelling snappers, Lutjanus.

 


Redfish are prodigious spawners that produce tens of millions of eggs. Spawning season is from about August through December, in passes, inlets and lagoon estuaries around the state.

Other Names Redfish, Rat Red, Bull Red, Or Just "Red" Description The most distinguishing mark on the red drum is one large black spot on the upper part of the tail base.

In some areas their diet seems to have adapted to include squid, shrimp, and various fish, such as schooling pelagic fish, halibut, and redfish. Narwhals normally congregate in groups of about five to ten.

Harp seals have a varied diet of fish such as capelin, polar and Arctic cod, herring, sculpin, Greenland halibut, redfish, and plaice. They also consume crustaceans such as amphipods, euphausids (krill), and decapods (shrimps and prawns).

The caterpillar is a typical 'inchworm' with a shiny dark body and dark redfish brown head. They feed primarily on birch but aren't averse to lunching on alders, willows and roses.

Food
deep water fish including redfish, herring, cod, halibut, and flounder. Also eats shrimp, octopus and mussels.

Diet
This shark feeds mainly upon cephalopods, pelagic crustaceans, jellyfish, and small redfish.
Reproduction
This shark is ovoviviparous; the fertilized eggs develop within the uterus.

The California redfish, or Pacific sheepshead, is a large wrasse reaching up to 3 ft (91 cm) and 30 lb (13.5 kg) and most abundant S of Monterey. The female is a dull red and the male is boldly patterned in crimson and black.
