The rhebok, Pelea capreolus, is an evolutionarily enigmatic species and is sometimes placed in a separate subfamily, Peleinae - only recently has this species been allied with the reedbucks and waterbucks.
Restricted to the Southern African subregion, the grey rhebok occurs only from Cape Province to Natal and Transvaal in South Africa, in Les otho and Swaziland (Wilson & Reeder, 1993), while it has been exterminated in Botswana (East, 1996).
