Macaque - name for Old World monkeys of the genus Macaca, related to mangabeys, mandrills, and baboons.
Rhesus monkeys are Asian, Old World monkeys. Their natural range includes Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Southeast Asia, and China. A few troops of introduced rhesus monkeys now live wild in Florida.

Many Old World monkeys-the baboons and mandrills of Africa; the rhesus monkeys of India-are larger than New World monkeys. In fact, Old World monkeys are more closely related to apes than they are to their distant South and Central American cousins.
