Little ringed plover
Little ringed plovers were seldom seen in the UK prior to the second world war. Since then, hundreds have arrived and made it their summer home.

Little Ringed Plover
Nesting waders in this country have sadly declined due to a reduction of wetlands. However, the story of the little ringed plover in north-west Europe since the 1930s provides an impressive exception.

Little-ringed Plover (Charadrius dubius) is a widespread resident and winter visitor in India. Size: 14-17 cm

DESCRIPTION: A medium-sized (16.5-20.0 cm [6.5-7.9 in.]; Corbat 2000) plover readily distinguished from other ringed plovers by stout black bill; upperparts gray-brown, underparts white, and legs flesh-colored.

Description: The Killdeer is the largest of the ringed plovers, and the only plover in its range with a double breast band. Killdeers have brown upperparts, white underparts, and orange rumps.

Wilson's Plover is bigger than all other ringed plovers except Killdeer. Semipalmated Plover has yellow legs and a small bicolored bill (all dark in winter) and is smaller over all. No other ringed plovers are dark on the back and crown.

Natural History
The snowy plover is the smallest and whitest of the North American plovers. Unlike ringed plovers that have a dark neckband, a snowy plover wears just two black patches on its shoulders.
