Found in southern Sudan, in parts of Central Africa and in West Africa from Senegal to Togo, the royal python inhabits dry grassland (whether natural or created by clearing), savannah and forest edges; it rarely occurs in forests.
The name royal python is believed to be derived from the fact that many African rulers were known to have worn live pythons as jewelry.

Ball/Royal Pythons make brilliant pets. I handle mine quite a lot and although they can be a bit head shy, once they settle, and realise who you are, this stops, unless you make a quick movement.

The Royal Python is also known as the Ball Python since it will coil into a tight ball with its head inside when threatened.
Called royal pythons in Europe, here in the United States we call them "balls" due to their habit of curling themselves up into a tight ball when they are nervous, their heads pulled firmly into the center.
Ball Pythons (Python regius) are snakes which are well-tempered and fairly easy to maintain. They may also be referred to as "Royal Pythons," or "Regal Pythons.
When incubating it coils its body over the eggs for a six to eight week period . The snakes temperature rises. The reticulated or Royal python of Southeast Asia may reach a length of 30 ft. or more .
