(sm´n), member of the Salmonidae, a family of marine fish that spawn in freshwater, including the salmons, the trouts, and the chars.

Salmon is the common name for several species of fish of the family Salmonidae. Several other fish in the family are called trout. Salmon live in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as the Great Lakes and other land locked lakes.

Salmonfly larvae are the aquatic nymphs of several species of very large Stoneflies. These nymphs look a lot like the adults, but without the wings of the adults. They can be fairly large at a whopping 50 mm (2 in.)long.

Salmon sharks mate during summer and autumn and give birth in the spring. Like other shark species, the male shark grasps the female by biting her while he inserts a clasper into the cloaca.

Salmon is a popular food. Consuming salmon is considered to be reasonably healthy due to the fish's high protein and low fat levels and to its high Omega-3 fatty acids content.

Atlantic salmon are found in the Atlantic Ocean near the north-eastern coast of North America, and near Greenland, Iceland and the western coast of Europe. Adults migrate up rivers and streams to spawn. There are also landlocked populations.

Atlantic salmon can be seen in the rivers of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick that drain into the Minas Basin and Chignecto Bay. After they go to sea, they remain in the Bay of Fundy.

Like their name implies, Brazilian salmon pink birdeaters are (partially) pink, with long salmon-colored hairs sticking out from their legs, abdomens and mouthparts. Except for the pink patches, these tarantulas are mostly dark brown.

SALMON SHARK
The Salmon shark (Lamna ditropis, also known as the Pacific Porbeagle) is named for its favorite meal - salmon. This shark is found in the Bering Sea and off western North America. It lives from the surface down to moderate depths.

Salmon are tertiary consumers. This means they eat animals that eat animals that eat primary producers (phytoplankton). Confusing? Salmon are hatched in fresh water and swim out to sea when they are big enough to fend for themselves.

Salmon are probably the best known odor-based migrant. Studies indicate that young salmon are somehow "imprinted" with the odor of their birth stream.

Salmonellosis, tuberculosis and strep throat are infections caused by different kinds of bacteria.
A bacterium is a single-celled microorganism.
Its genes float free in the liquid inside itself (the cytoplasm).

Salmonella is frequently associated with reptiles and other health risks are possible with handling. This means special precautions such as sterilizing gloves and cleaning areas are necessary for the protection of the pet owners.

Salmonellosis: This infectious, contagious, bacterial disease is widespread in domestic and wild birds. Several species of Salmonella may be involved, including those which cause pullorum disease, fowl typhoid, and enteric salmonellosis.

Food: Salmon, anchovy, capelin and other inshore fish, as well as squid and shrimp. Bottle nosed dolphins are commonly sighted around the British Isles, where they are seen mainly in seas to the south and west.

Due to its size, the Danube salmon or huchen is without doubt first and foremost among Slovenian trout species. The largest registered huchen catch, a respectable 27 kilograms in 2005, makes it a prime target for huchen fishermen.
