Rockfish - member of the large family Scorpaenidae carnivorous fish inhabiting all seas and especially abundant in the temperate waters of the Pacific.

 


Spotted Scorpionfish Scorpaena plumieri
Resting quietly on the seabed, the spotted scorpionfish is almost invisible thanks to its mottled color and weedlike skin flaps that cover its head.

Some scorpionfish are also brightly colored and many have venomous dorsal spines.

Scorpionfishes get their name as many have venomous spines which can inflict very painful wounds.
