Sea Mink
Mustela macrodon The sea mink is believed to have lived on the rocky coasts off the waters of New England and eastern Canada. It was twice the size of the American mink. It was hunted for its pelt. It became extinct by the 1890s.

 


Statewide except Nantucket County. The extinct sea mink (N. macrodon) formerly occurred in coastal Massachusetts.

The whitings, or kingfishes, include the Northern, or king, whiting, or sea mink; the Southern kingfish, or king whiting; and the surf whiting and its Pacific counterpart, the corbina. All average 3 lb (1.4 kg) in weight and 2 ft (60 cm) in length.
